I was pretty amped when I received a brief from Elle Magazine which was basically about collaboration & story telling, I mean it is kinda my thing #TeamPlayer alert! (DJ Khaled voice) . I really enjoy working with a team of people, reason being there are so many ideas in a pot, which can become very exciting, none the less I approached Julia Mpoko from MOKA ELOSA who is no stranger to Elle magazine with a concept title Troglodyte.
Cape Town fashion is known to be very laid back, same goes for the city atmospheres. A lot of the natives claim it’s a reflection of the environment which surrounds Cape Town. So, I thought to myself, this can’t be true, and the best place to check this out was on the first Fashion week of the year, right here in Cape Town, The South African Menswear Week.
I documented the whole event and my conclusion was, It’s def laid back, however, that does not mean in any way we(as a Capetonian myself) are less dope, but it means we are ourselves in a super dope way, lol I am so biased.
Have a look for yourself.
Living in a city neighbouring the second largest ocean in the world, it is bound to get windy with ‘the waters’ falling from the sky.
Meet Coat Roshe, a detective from lower Woodstock, Cape Town, who travels the city solving perplex crimes with his younger brother (a figment of my imagination).
I created this character because when I complain that its cold. It’s said to be all in the mind. How does this relate?
Swimming lions solve maths problems. What?
The inspiration for this look came from how they did it back in the day in Sophiatown, a not so small suburb in Johannesburg, South Africa with a deep history.
Wikipedia tells me: denim is a sturdy cotton warp-faced twill textile in which the weft passes under two or more warp threads. This twill weaving produces the familiar diagonal ribbing of the denim that distinguishes it from cotton duck.
Recently met up with Boombap enthusiast, streetwear lover and homie, Luthando Mankayi. I met this guy through Sj Stevens, they were working together at Topman whilst I was at Cotton On, back in the retail days not to long ago. I really admired his streetwear style, he always had these sick jackets. Never the less, we agreed when we return from Initiation School, we’d do something for the upcoming winter and this is what happened.
